Most patients are completely healed within 2-4 weeks after their Smartlipo surgery.

The Smartlipo procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia. You may feel some pressure or similar sensations, but the procedure should not be painful.

Local anesthesia will be used during treatment with SmartLipo to ensure a comfortable process. SmartLipo is a minimally invasive procedure, using even smaller incisions than traditional liposuction techniques. This, along with the use of laser energy providing less trauma on the body, patients can expect less discomfort than with traditional liposuction.

Although the procedure is performed under local anesthesia rather than general, Dr. Kayastha still requires Smartlipo patients to have a caregiver drive them home from our surgery center.

While under local anesthesia you may feel sensations like pressure, tugging, or stinging, but the Smartlipo procedure should not be painful.

SmartLipo and liposuction are both fat reduction techniques, using tiny incisions to break up and remove the stubborn fat cells. However, while liposuction uses a cannula to break up the fat cells, SmartLipo uses laser energy to melt the fat cells, making the removal process easier.
