SmartLipo Laser Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck: Which One is Right For Me?

SmartLipo Laser Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck: Which One is Right For Me?

Body contouring procedures help patients get a slimmer, firmer figure. Dr. Kayastha offers various body contouring procedures to his patients in Albany, Saratoga, Clifton Park, Schenectady, and surrounding communities. He provides two popular body contouring treatments: SmartLipo laser liposuction and Tummy Tucks. With these two procedures, Dr. Kayastha can give his patients a slimmer abdominal profile. He consults with each patient to determine the correct procedure for them, but we want to help give you an idea of which method might be the best for you.

What Is SmartLipo?

The SmartLipo procedure is a minimally invasive laser liposuction treatment. Rather than only using a cannula to break up fat cells, it first uses laser energy. This makes the fat removal process less traumatic for the body. SmartLipo can be used in the same areas as traditional liposuction and helps remove any stubborn pockets of fat resistant to diet and exercise. Not only does SmartLipo remove fatty pockets, but it works to tighten up loose skin as well. With SmartLipo skin tightening, the loose tissue can be somewhat tightened. Dr. Kayastha works with each patient individually to map out the areas needed for treatment to achieve their goals.

What’s the Procedure like?

Dr. Kayastha performs the SmartLipo laser liposuction using local anesthesia and oral medication to make his patients feel relaxed and comfortable. A tumescent solution is pumped into the area for treatment; this will numb and constrict the blood vessels to minimize bleeding. Dr. Kayastha uses small incisions in the treatment area to insert the laser fiber to heat and melt the fat. Once the fat is melted, it will be removed with a cannula, just like standard liposuction. During this process, Dr. Kayastha will apply energy to the under-surface of the skin to encourage it to tighten.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Getting an ideal abdominal profile can be tricky, even with plenty of diet and exercise. Sometimes, excess fat and loose skin will not go away or tighten no matter what we do. Dr. Kayastha offers many different body contouring procedures, one of the most popular being the tummy tuck. This procedure, formally known as abdominoplasty, helps to re-contour the abdominal area. Through the tummy tuck procedure, Dr. Kayastha can remove excess fat pockets and loose skin tissue for his patients. He also tightens the abdominal muscles, which may have been stretched by weight gain or pregnancy. He works with each patient to create a unique treatment plan so they can obtain a slimmer figure.

What’s the Procedure Like?

Dr. Kayastha offers various anesthetic techniques, but this procedure is typically done under general anesthesia in the hospital to ensure the highest level of safety and comfort for the patient. The method is complex as it involves making an incision at the bikini line and sometimes around the navel, depending on what type of tummy tuck technique is used. Once the incisions are made, the excess skin and fat are lifted from the underlying abdominal wall musculature. The muscles are then inspected, and if they are bulging due to being stretched by pregnancy or other conditions, they are repaired. Next, the amount of excess skin is carefully determined and removed. Liposuction is often performed on the abdomen and love handles at the same time to improve the contour of the entire midsection.

SmartLipo vs. Tummy Tuck

Both of these techniques can help improve your abdominal profile by removing stubborn fat pockets or loose skin. These methods are done with different types of anesthesia. SmartLipo laser liposuction can be performed in the office with local anesthesia and oral medication. A tummy tuck is performed in the hospital with general anesthesia. The SmartLipo recovery is less extensive than the tummy tuck recovery. However, a tummy tuck can remove more fat and skin tissue simultaneously. Also, SmartLipo can be done on various body areas, whereas tummy tuck focuses on the abdominal area. SmartLipo and tummy tucks can have multiple side effects, such as swelling, bruising, and redness at the treatment site. During a consultation, Dr. Kayastha will review all SmartLipo side effects and risks. If you are considering either procedure, the best way to choose the procedure is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Kayastha.
