Fractional laser treatment is a non-invasive treatment that uses a laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic beams that target a fraction of the skin at a time. Over time, our skin becomes damaged by unavoidable exposure to the sun, air pollution, stress, fatigue, smoking, and age-related challenges. All of these stressors cause damage and keep us from looking as good on the outside as we may feel on the inside.

What is Fraxel Laser Treatment?
Fraxel is the gold standard for laser skin rejuvenation treatments. It bridges the gap between the ablative and non-ablative laser techniques used to treat sun-damaged and aging skin. Ablative laser treatments work mainly on the superficial skin cells and non-ablative treatments work solely on deeper skin layers, fractional laser treatment works at both of these levels. The Fraxel laser produces thousands of tiny columns to treat your skin. The Fraxel laser allows Dr. Kayastha to treat your areas of concerns – one area at a time – without damaging surrounding areas. The Fraxel laser is so advanced that it penetrates deep into the dermis without affecting untargeted surrounding areas.
Who is a Good Candidate for Fractional Laser Treatment?
Fractional laser treatment is safe for all skin types and can be used on any part of the body including the face, neck, chest, and hands. Those who experience facial lines and wrinkles, sun damage, skin pigmentation associated with photoaging, surgical scars, and acne scars can benefit from treatment with the fractional laser. Patients can also benefit from the fractional laser to improve skin and texture and receive full facial rejuvenation. Dr. Kayastha can examine your skin to determine how to effectively treat your concerns.

Fraxel laser treatment is commonly used to address a variety of skin concerns on the face, neck or chest for various concerns and youth preservation.
What Happens During Fractional Laser Treatment?
Your fractional laser treatment begins with an evaluation to assess your skin health, skin tone, and specific goals. Your provider will create a personalized treatment plan to address common skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, discoloration, and uneven skin texture. This customized treatment plan will also determine how many treatments may be needed to achieve optimal results. Pre-treatment with a bleaching cream may be recommended for patients with darker skin or hyperpigmentation.
Before the procedure, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a topical numbing cream will be applied for approximately 45–60 minutes. Once the area is numb from the topical anesthetic, the fractional laser handpiece will be passed over the skin surface. Unlike some traditional laser treatments, fractional skin resurfacing treats only a fraction of the skin at a time, creating microscopic treatment columns through the epidermal and dermal layers while leaving the surrounding tissue intact. Preserving the surrounding tissue supports rapid healing and stimulates the body’s natural healing process. A full-face treatment generally takes about 30 minutes.
What Results Can I Expect After the Fraxel Procedure?
After treatment, you may experience a mild sunburn-like sensation for an hour or two, followed by swelling and redness for the first few days. The outermost layer of the skin may develop a bronzed appearance lasting approximately 2–14 days. Some patients also experience mild flaking, which can be managed with a gentle moisturizer and appropriate post treatment care.
As the skin heals, the treatment encourages collagen production and the development of healthy skin cells, gradually improving skin texture and creating a smoother, more even appearance. Patients may notice improvements in overall skin texture and skin tone as the treated area continues to renew itself. Because fractional technology leaves portions of the skin untreated, patients typically experience minimal downtime and may be able to apply makeup and return to work shortly after treatment.
During recovery, avoid direct sun exposure and apply a broad spectrum sunscreen as directed to protect the newly treated skin and maintain your results.

Fraxel laser treatments profoundly reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage without interrupting the patient’s daily routine.
