What is SmartLipo Body Contouring?
SmartLipo is laser-assisted liposuction that utilizes the laser to dissolve the fat for more efficient removal and to tighten the skin. SmartLipo with Dr. Kayastha uses three lasers to melt fat, coagulate blood vessels to reduce the risk of bleeding and bruising and tighten the skin.
Am I a Candidate for SmartLipo Plastic Surgery?
You may be a candidate for the SmartLipo procedure if you are near your ideal weight but have stubborn fat or localized fat deposits that do not improve with diet and exercise. This body contouring procedure uses laser-assisted lipolysis, during which a small laser probe delivers laser energy to disrupt fat cells and encourage skin tightening in the treatment area. Unlike a weight loss treatment, SmartLipo is a targeted fat removal procedure that can permanently remove fat cells from select areas of body fat. Candidates should follow a healthy diet, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and have realistic expectations about this cosmetic procedure. Compared with traditional liposuction, laser lipolysis may offer minimal downtime and may not require general anesthesia, although it is still a surgical procedure. In some cases, the surgeon may perform traditional liposuction alongside SmartLipo for more extensive contouring. Patients may need to wear a compression garment during recovery, and individuals with significant excess skin may require a different treatment. How does SmartLipo Fat Removal Tighten Loose Skin?
Like other laser procedures that target the dermis, the underlying layer of the skin, SmartLipo lasers stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. These two proteins are responsible for providing support and structure to the skin. The heat from the three lasers stimulates this production increase.
What’s the procedure like?
SmartLipo Triplex laser liposuction is performed with the patient under only local anesthesia. First, the target area is injected with a tumescent solution (a combination of saline solution with small amounts of local anesthetic and epinephrine). This solution numbs the area and constricts the blood vessels.
Next, the laser fiber is inserted through a small incision made in the skin. The laser heats the fat and surrounding skin, melting the fat while tightening the skin. After the heating, a thin cannula is inserted through the incision and is moved around to suction out the dissolved fat.
Fast Recovery Times from Laser Assisted Liposuction
Since there is so much less trauma associated with SmartLipo, patients often don’t even require pain medication the evening after their procedure. They can drive the next day and return to work only one or two days later.
