Choosing Between SmartLipo and CoolSculpting
During initial consultations, we are asked which minimally-invasive body contouring procedure is best. SmartLipo or CoolSculpting? Although both procedures produce the same excellent outcomes, they are different in certain ways.
Invasiveness of the Procedure
Invasiveness is one of the key differences between SmartLipo and CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting utilizes completely non-invasive advanced cooling technology to freeze unwanted fat. The solidified fat is naturally eliminated by the body over the next two months. SmartLipo is a minimally-invasive procedure that utilizes a small laser inserted under the skin to melt fat in the target areas. A tiny incision is required for SmartLipo, unlike the non-invasive CoolSculpting device.
Treatment Areas
CoolSculpting and SmartLipo can both be used to target stubborn fat in a variety of areas like the stomach, inner thighs, upper arms, under the chin, and back. Love handles, bra fat, and a double chin can all be improved with either of these technologies. Men can also achieve a more sculpted chest with both technologies. CoolSculpting can be used in a few additional areas like the outer thighs and buttocks.
Number of Treatments
CoolSculpting requires a series of treatments over several weeks to obtain the desired outcomes in your target area/s, while SmartLipo only needs a single session to see results. While some patients can benefit from just one CoolSculpting treatment, the amount of fat and size of the treatment area can require up to six sessions.
Immediacy of the Results
SmartLipo results develop fully in 5-7 days but some immediate skin tightening and toning is visible. CoolSculpting takes several months before results can be seen since the body gradually flushes out treated fat cells.
Skin Tightening
Since SmartLipo uses heat energy to melt fat cells, it can also tighten the skin. Laser-generated heat stimulates the body’s natural healing process and tissue regeneration. SmartLipo has the added advantage of improving mild skin laxity or loose skin.
