An IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacial is a laser treatment that addresses common skin pigment concerns including sun spots, age spots, freckles, and other blemishes. Using laser light energy, an IPL photofacial can heat deep layers of skin, causing collagen and blood vessels to constrict, resulting in reduced redness while removing the outer layer of skin to reduce brown spots.

Who is a Good Candidate for IPL Photofacial Treatment?
Those who experience hyperpigmentation, age spots, sun damage, redness, spider veins, rosacea, and other pigmentation issues can benefit from the IPL photofacial. The treatment is commonly used on the face, neck, chest, and hands. The light rays are attracted to pigment, making those with light skin tones more successful candidates. However, our laser professionals will need to examine your skin to determine if you are a good candidate or not.

IPL photofacial is renowned for treating various areas, including the face, arms, and hands, preserving youth long-term, and repairing damaged skin.
What Happens During IPL Treatment?
After your IPL consultation, treatment with the IPL photo facial treatment begins by cleansing the skin and removing any makeup. A cooling gel is then applied to the treatment area to protect your skin and enhance the effectiveness of the intense light delivered by the IPL device. The handheld IPL device is moved across your skin in a grid-like pattern, delivering light pulses that target a variety of skin concerns, including dark spots, uneven skin tone, visible damage, certain skin conditions, and even unwanted hair. Patients with light, medium skin tones, or dark may be candidates depending on their individual needs, which will be discussed during your consultation. As the IPL photo facial work is performed, you may feel mild pain often compared to the snap of a rubber band, but the treatment is generally well tolerated. Depending on the severity of your concerns, the device may pass over the skin several times. Unlike laser resurfacing, IPL therapy treats multiple concerns with minimal downtime while promoting skin rejuvenation and improving overall skin texture.
What Results Can I Expect After Intense Pulsed Light Therapy?
After treatment with the IPL photofacial, the skin may appear red with slight redness and swelling for a few hours or, in some cases, several days. Your brown spots may appear darker at first before gradually flaking away as part of the natural healing process, revealing a more youthful complexion with a brighter, more even appearance. For the most successful results, 3–5 spaced-out skin treatments are typically recommended. Over the next few months, your skin will continue to improve, and most patients can return to their normal skin care routine shortly after treatment with guidance from their provider. It is important to avoid sun exposure and wear sun protection to help maintain your results, reduce the risk of pigmentation changes, and protect against future skin damage.
