Fractional laser treatment is a non-invasive treatment that uses a laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic beams that target a fraction of the skin at a time. Over time, our skin becomes damaged by unavoidable exposure to the sun, air pollution, stress, fatigue, smoking, and age-related challenges. All of these stressors cause damage and keep us from looking as good on the outside as we may feel on the inside.

What is Fraxel Laser Treatment?
Fraxel is the gold standard for laser skin rejuvenation treatments. It bridges the gap between the ablative and non-ablative laser techniques used to treat sun-damaged and aging skin. Ablative laser treatments work mainly on the superficial skin cells and non-ablative treatments work solely on deeper skin layers, fractional laser treatment works at both of these levels. The Fraxel laser produces thousands of tiny columns to treat your skin. The Fraxel laser allows Dr. Kayastha to treat your areas of concerns – one area at a time – without damaging surrounding areas. The Fraxel laser is so advanced that it penetrates deep into the dermis without affecting untargeted surrounding areas.
Who is a Good Candidate for Fractional Laser Treatment?
Fractional laser treatment is safe for all skin types and can be used on any part of the body including the face, neck, chest, and hands. Those who experience facial lines and wrinkles, sun damage, skin pigmentation associated with photoaging, surgical scars, and acne scars can benefit from treatment with the fractional laser. Patients can also benefit from the fractional laser to improve skin and texture and receive full facial rejuvenation. Dr. Kayastha can examine your skin to determine how to effectively treat your concerns.
Fraxel laser treatment is commonly used to address a variety of skin concerns on the face, neck or chest for various concerns and youth preservation.
What Happens During Fractional Laser Treatment?
Your fractional laser treatment will begin with an evaluation and a treatment plan that will be tailored to your specific needs. Pre-treatment with a bleaching cream may be required for patients with darker skin or hyperpigmentation. To begin the treatment process, your skin will be washed, and a topical numbing agent will be applied prior to the treatment. This numbing cream should be allowed to work for 45-60 minutes. Once the numbing cream has taken full effect, the fractional laser handpiece will be passed over the treatment area. Treatment of the full face takes approximately 30 minutes.
What Results Can I Expect?
After treatment, you will experience a mild sunburn sensation for an hour or two with swelling and redness for the first few days. The outermost skin layer will have a bronzed appearance that lasts for 2-14 days. Some patients will experience mild flaking that can be treated with a moisturizer. With minimal side effects, you should expect a speedy recovery with little to no downtime. Depending upon the laser used and how extensive your treatment is, you should be able to apply make-up and return to work immediately.
Fraxel laser treatments profoundly reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage without interrupting the patient’s daily routine.
