Juvéderm is an injectable gel used to gently reverse the many signs of aging that are seen on the face, including fine lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet, thin lips, and loosening skin. These are generally caused by a loss of volume over time, which can be the result of decreased collagen production and fat that begins to sag. Because of its ability to restore volume and plump the contours of different parts of the face, Juvéderm has been effectively used to add volume to the lips, sculpt the cheeks, and restore a younger-looking facial profile.

The office is immaculate. I’m always greeted with a smile and everyone remembers my name!! I’m usually in and out of the office, not like usual doctors’ offices where you sit and wait and wait. They get you in, they do their thing, answer all your questions, and send you on your way.

Dr K and his entire team were incredible. They answered all of my questions, got right back to me every time I reached out and were beyond friendly. The front desk made me feel welcome, Dr K was professional, caring and precise. The nurses and other medical personnel were wonderful too. Overall 100 stars, highly recommend.

What is Juvederm?

It is synthesized from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and is responsible for many important functions like retaining moisture. It is then formulated into a smooth gel infused with the anesthetic lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during the treatment. Hyaluronic acid works in combination with collagen and elastin to give the skin volume and restore an underlying support structure.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR Juvéderm?

Patients with visible signs of aging who are looking for non-surgical options can greatly benefit from Juvéderm treatments. Certain allergies can mean you may not be a good candidate, but Dr. Kayastha can discuss your medical history in depth during a consultation. He can also recommend other cosmetic options or treatments that can augment your results with Juvéderm. There are many different types of Juvéderm, and Dr. Kayastha can recommend the right one for you.

Dermal filler injections such as Juvederm are comprised of naturally occurring substances that help to ease the recovery period and diminish discomfort.

What Happens During a Juvéderm Treatment?

Most Juvéderm treatments take up to a half-hour, depending on how many areas are being treated. Patients usually tolerate the injection well, since Juvéderm contains lidocaine for comfort, but we can provide a topical numbing cream for additional comfort. Once the treatment area is prepared, the expert injector places the Juvéderm gel underneath the skin at the appropriate level (for example, sensitive areas like the lips require a surface-level injection). This requires a skillful and artistic touch in order to shape the area with natural results that don’t appear ‘stuffed’. Since immediate results are usually visible, more injections can be added as needed.

What Can I Expect After Juvederm Treatment?

Although patients usually see results immediately after treatment, there can be some redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. These side effects usually subside quickly with massaging the area or applying an icepack if needed. Most patients return to their regular tasks afterward, since Juvéderm does not require any downtime. Results can last up to six months, after which the injection can be repeated.

Juvederm has gained popularity as a dermal filler for treatment areas such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and lips, offering improved texture and added volume.

Alternatives to Juvéderm

Juvederm Voluma

Similar to Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma uses a hyaluronic acid base to add volume to the face. However, Juvederm Voluma is specifically designed to plump hollowed cheeks, creating a much more youthful appearance overall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear makeup after Juvederm?

Yes, as long as you avoid pressing on the treated areas, you are allowed to use makeup to conceal any redness or bruising that may be the result of Juvederm injections.

Can Juvederm be reversed?

Yes, if you have unfavorable results or adverse side effects to Juvederm, it can be instantly un-done by injecting the enzyme hyaluronidase to the treated area(s).

Is Juvederm lumpy at first?

Immediately after treatment, patients may see raised areas of their faces, so-called bumps, directly underneath the injection sites. These bumps go away within the time it takes to leave our offices after injections.

What happens when Juvederm settles?

After Juvederm is injected, the product begins to attract water in your skin. This process hydrates the skin and naturally boosts its volume.

Will one syringe of Juvederm make a difference?

This can depend largely on the skill of your injector. For certain treatment areas, one syringe can be more than enough while in other areas you may need multiple.

Does juvederm dissolve over time?

Juvederm, like every dermal filler, is metabolized by your body over time as it relies on a naturally occurring substance, hyaluronic acid, to add volume to certain areas of the face.

Is Juvederm covered by insurance?

No, dermal fillers are elective cosmetic treatments, so they are not covered by medical insurance plans.

What should you avoid before Juvederm?

Make sure to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for at least one week before your procedure. This can help prevent visible bruising during injection.

How long does it take for Juvederm to settle?

Although you’ll see results immediately after your injection session, it can take up to 2 weeks for the product to take hold.

Can Juvederm migrate?

Depending on the specific formulation of Juvederm, it can spread out slightly through the treated area, although this usually only serves to enhance the natural look of its results.

How long after Juvederm will I see results?

Your results from Juvederm are immediate, although some settling/distribution occurs during the first week after your injection appointment.

Is Juvederm expensive?

In Albany, NY, Juvederm treatments cost between $450 and $750 depending on the treated area, type of filler, and amount of Juvederm needed.

Does Juvederm work on forehead lines?

Botox is much better suited to reducing the appearance of forehead lines than Juvederm. Your injector can determine your best options during your consultation.

Does Juvederm look natural?

When injected with well-qualified, highly experienced injectors like those at K Plastic Surgery, Juvederm results are seamlessly natural-looking.
