When to Consider Dermal Fillers

When to Consider Dermal Fillers

The face loses volume as we age. Restoring facial volume can be done with the use of dermal fillers. At K Plastic Surgery we offer several dermal fillers from Juvederm and Radiesse. These fillers are injected into areas where volume has been lost and can address wrinkles and fine lines as well. Who should consider dermal fillers and when is the right time to receive them? We have all the answers.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectables that plump the skin to fill in deep, static wrinkles and/or add volume to improve hollowed areas of the face or add structure to the facial contours. We offer two types of dermal fillers in Albany, NY: Juvederm and Radiesse. Juvederm uses hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body to plump and hydrate the skin. Juvederm Voluma is a specialized type of Juvederm injectable designed to fill in hollowed cheeks and redefine the cheekbones.

Radiesse uses calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) to stimulate collagen production for a gradual plumping effect. Collagen is an important protein in the skin that gives it elasticity and a firm texture. As we age, collagen production slows down, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. Radiesse can be used in a variety of areas on the face and hands to improve these signs of aging.

When Should You Consider Dermal Fillers?

There is no “right” time to receive dermal fillers. Older patients who want to rejuvenate their appearance and younger patients who want to enhance their appearance or slow down early signs of aging are all popular users of dermal fillers. If you have one or more of the following concerns, you may want to consider dermal fillers:

You Want to Turn Back the Clock

Dermal fillers are perfect for people who want to reverse the wrinkles and fine lines that come with age. These fillers can take years off the face, making you look younger. Although dermal fillers cannot stop skin aging, they can set it back to create a more youthful look. Results often last up to 2 years!

You Don’t Want Surgery

Surgery is not always necessary to restore your youthful appearance, especially for patients with mild skin laxity and wrinkling. Dermal fillers are a great alternative. Any discomfort during the injections is minimal and can be addressed with topical pain relief during the procedure. Recovery is also limited and only requires a day or two of downtime.

You Have a Tight Schedule

Dermal filler sessions are quick, usually lasting only 30 minutes or so, and you can schedule appointments during lunch breaks. Plus, you can resume normal activities and return to work immediately after injections. The only thing that should be avoided for a couple of days is strenuous exercise since this will increase blood flow and create swelling or bruising.
