Whitney M.

I was also thinking of going with a different place until I met Dr. Kayastha. Within 5 minutes of meeting him, I knew he was the one. He has an amazing bedside manner plus he was honest and straight forward from the beginning. He spent quite a bit of time with me explaining everything and didn’t send me to meet with his office staff to explain important details about the surgery like the other 2 places. I never felt like he was rushing with me to see another patient. My result were amazing and I would highly recommend Dr. Kayastha. Once you meet him, you won’t want to go anywhere else!!

Ann T.

Dr. Kayastha was very helpful since the beginning of the consultation, explaining every detail of the surgery all the way to the very last one, I would recommend anyone looking for his services and his staff are really nice and kind! Very happy will do all over again if needed.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to alter the size or shape of the labia minora (inner lips of the vulva). The size and shape of the labia minora can affect sexual intercourse and daily activities, as well as be a source of insecurity. Labiaplasty seeks to address all of these issues by reducing the size of the labia minora and creating better symmetry.

Who is a Good Candidate for Labiaplasty?

Ideal candidates for labiaplasty experience an enlarged or asymmetrical labia caused by genetics or changes associated with aging and childbirth. Ideal candidates for labiaplasty include:

  • Individuals who experience discomfort during intercourse.
  • Those who find wearing tight clothing uncomfortable.
  • People who experience discomfort or chafing during exercise.
  • Women who are self conscious about the appearance of their labia
  • Candidates in overall good health.
  • Those with no conflicting medical conditions or prescriptions.
  • Individuals who have experienced vaginal trauma during labor.

Does the size or shape of your labia bother you because of the way they look or cause other physical issues? If so, you could benefit from labiaplasty.

Customize Your Labiaplasty

There are different techniques that can be utilized during a labiaplasty procedure to change the appearance of you labia while still maintaining its function and sensation– Dr. Kayastha will review each option to create an appropriate treatment plan:

CUSTOMIZATION

  • Trim Technique (Edge Technique)

The trim technique follows the natural border of the labia. Your surgeon Dr. Kayastha will remove excess tissue to change the size of the labia minora and improve shape and symmetry. With this method, scarring will be concealed within the new edge of the labia. This technique is preferred for patients seeking to remove hyperpigmentation along the edge of the labia minora.

  • Wedge Technique

The wedge technique involves your surgeon removing a triangle-shaped piece of tissue from the labia. This preserves the natural border of the labia while still reducing the amount of tissue present. This technique may be best if only a part of the labia is enlarged.

Labiaplasty Results

After labiaplasty surgery and recovery, patients can expect improvement in physical discomfortal caused by large labia. Those that were self conscious and unhappy with the appearance of their labia experience increased confidence and self esteem with their new appearance.

Recovering from Labiaplasty

Dr. Kayastha will provide detailed instructions on bathing and bathroom use post-operation to reduce initial pain and prevent infection. Most women will relax at home for two to three days following the procedure. Pain medications and antibiotics will be prescribed immediately after your procedure– take these as directed to avoid possible complications. Discomfort may be present for a few days following your procedure. Patients can resume most daily activities after 2-4 days, depending on when the pain subsides. Swelling peaks within the first two weeks. During this time lie down as much as possible. Patients return to the gym in three weeks and can resume intercourse in six weeks.

You can exercise in 3 weeks and have intercourse in 6 weeks following your procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a labiaplasty require general anesthesia?

Labiaplasty can be performed with either local anesthesia or general anesthesia. This largely depends on your specific needs and what you are most comfortable with.

Does labiaplasty cause vaginal dryness?

Vaginal dryness is a very rare side effect that should not occur when the operation is performed by an experienced surgeon.

Will a labiaplasty help with yeast infections?

Since longer labia can be one cause of yeast infections because they trap moisture, a labiaplasty may help reduce the occurrence of yeast infections.

Why would you get a labiaplasty?

Women often opt for labiaplasty because of discomfort or health concerns that come with long, protruding labia. This can include dryness, itchiness, and chafing.

Is a labiaplasty covered by insurance?

Labiaplasty is not covered by insurance unless the procedure is deemed medically necessary.

Will I lose feeling if I have a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty should have no effect on sensation once healing is complete.

Does a labiaplasty affect birth?

Labiaplasty should not result in any risks for giving birth. However, some patients choose to wait until they are done having children before undergoing a labiaplasty so that they can be sure to enjoy their results long-term.

Can you walk after a labiaplasty?

Although you can walk after a labiaplasty, it is recommended you only walk minimally for the first couple of days after your surgery.

What are the risks of a labiaplasty?

As with all surgeries, there is the risk of bleeding, swelling, and scarring. While these symptoms may gradually go away, there is also the slight risk that you will lose sensitivity and that too much tissue is removed.

How do you know if you need a labiaplasty?

If you experience discomfort, such as chaffing and irritation, when you wear a bathing suit or tight clothes, a labiaplasty might be beneficial. Another sign is if your labia is causing discomfort during sex - longer labia can get sucked into the vagina during intercourse which can result in tears on the vulva.

Will a labiaplasty leave scars?

After a labiaplasty, any resulting scar tissue should be well concealed within the natural contours of the body.
