This technique was developed by Dr. Jeffrey A. Klein in 1985 and revolutionized liposuction surgery. Tumescent liposuction allowed liposuction to be performed with local anesthetic and with much less blood loss compared to previous techniques.
LAL Laser-Assisted Liposuction
SmartLipo laser liposuction adds one important step before traditional tumescent liposuction is performed. This minimally invasive procedure starts by introducing a laser fiber underneath the skin into the fat layer being treated. The laser is used to melt the fat cells and to heat the skin in the treatment area. Liquefying the fat cells makes them easier to remove. Heating the skin triggers a healing response where collagen growth is stimulated. Increased collagen helps firm and tighten the skin.
PrecisionTx is a smaller SmartLipo handpiece and slimmer laser fiber that can be used to treat more delicate areas like the face and neck. PrecisionTx has been called the “knifeless facelift” because you can get some of the results of a traditional facelift without a large incision or surgery.
UAL Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
The best-known form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction is known as VASER liposuction. Much like laser liposuction, VASER liposuction is a step that is added before traditional liposuction. During a VASER procedure, small incisions are used to introduce a cannula that emits ultrasonic energy to liquefy fat. This is thought to minimize damage to surrounding tissues since it is easier to remove the fat that is liquefied. VASER is also thought to have some additional skin tightening in comparison with traditional liposuction.
