What is Laser Hair Removal?
If you’re tired of painful waxing or constant shaving, laser hair removal can offer a more permanent solution to getting rid of unwanted body hair. With targeted laser energy, our laser system can safely destroy the hair follicle while protecting the surrounding tissue.
At K Plastic Surgery, we use the state-of-the-art Cynosure Elite MPX (www.cynosure.com) laser technology to deliver exceptional results. The Cynosure Elite MPX is effective and comfortable for all skin types, and it has the most advanced cooling handpiece (the Zimmer) and the latest multi-wavelength system, powered by MultiPlex technology.
Who is a Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Anyone who has unwanted body hair that they would like permanently reduced or removed can benefit from laser hair removal. Laser hair removal can be used virtually anywhere you have hair including the face, underarms, arms, legs, back, and chest. Our Cynosure Elite MPX system is safe and effective for all hair colors and skin types. Because laser light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, those with darker hair will have the most success with the least treatments. However, you can still find success if you have brown, blonde, and even red hair, it just might take a few more treatment sessions. During a consultation, Dr. Kayastha can determine if you will be a successful candidate and how many treatment sessions you can expect.
What Happens During Laser Hair Removal?
Prior to laser hair removal treatment, you will be given eye protection and a cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area to protect the skin. After mapping the treatment area and prepping the skin, the appropriate laser handpiece will be used, delivering quick bursts of laser light. Several passes will be made over the treatment area until all follicles have been effectively treated. Patients report a sensation similar to a rubber band being snapped on their skin, however, with the Zimmer cooling system, your discomfort is greatly minimized.
What Results Can I Expect?
In the days following your laser hair removal treatment, the treated area will appear red and swollen, similar to a sunburn. You will be instructed to apply an ice pack and use an anti-inflammatory cream to help with discomfort. In rare cases, the area may blister. It is important to wear sunscreen or avoid sun exposure in the weeks following your treatment to prevent pigment changes to the treated skin.
Over the next month, your treated hair will begin to fall out. Due to the natural growth phases of the hair, you will need several spaced-out treatment sessions to ensure all hair follicles are treated and to see optimal hair reduction.
Dr. Kayastha and our laser specialists can determine how many treatment sessions you can expect with your laser hair removal treatment. Contact our office today to schedule your consultation at K Plastic Surgery.
