Body Contouring After Weight Loss: Is It Right for Me?

Body Contouring After Weight Loss: Is It Right for Me?

Whether you’ve hit your hard-earned goals or you’ve still got them in sight, it’s normal to think about your options for body contouring after weight loss. Although massive weight loss is a difficult and life-changing journey, it can be disheartening to reach your ideal weight but still be carrying the effects of your previous weight. For this reason, Dr. Kayastha specializes in body contouring procedures to help restore your body and its appearance. Here’s what to know about considering this option as a part of your weight loss journey.

Your have stubborn fat pockets

No matter your hard work, it’s a reality that some areas will cling to stubborn fat pockets. It can be nearly impossible to reduce these the traditional way, so some patients benefit from surgical intervention to reduce them. Common areas for this are the stomach, hips, thighs, arms, and chin. Often, liposuction is an effective option in treating these if you don’t have too much skin laxity. Reducing fatty deposits in these areas can help improve contours and your overall profile, helping you feel like you’ve truly lost all the fat you want to.

You have excess skin

One (often unspoken) side effect of massive weight loss is the effects that it can have on your skin. Unfortunately, the skin stretches over time to accommodate weight gain and doesn’t often tighten back up after the weight has been lost. This can leave sagging and loose skin behind that can cause patients to experience problems with sweating, rashes, difficulty wearing revealing clothing, intimacy, and a host of other uncomfortable situations. For most patients, the most demoralizing part is that this skin doesn’t respond to their diet and exercise regimen. Excess skin often needs surgical excision, and a number of lift procedures are designed to address common areas where this happens. This can include the neck lift, breast lift, panniculectomy, tummy tuck, lower body lift, thigh lift, and arm lift.

You’re at or near your ideal weight

Weight loss is a journey, so it’s extremely important that your final destination is in sight before you begin your body contouring process. This is because substantial weight gain or loss can affect your great results, sometimes requiring additional procedures. Each of these possibilities can negatively affect your contours and lift results. For this reason, Dr. Kayastha will discuss your weight loss journey and your established diet and exercise habits to determine whether it’s the right time for you to undergo your procedures or whether you should keep refining your weight loss results.
