What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) is the process where your aesthetician will use the Eclipse Micropen Elite device to create a controlled injury to your skin. A controlled injury to your skin induces growth factors that aid in creating new collagen and elastin. This device uses tiny needles to create micro-channels (as opposed to other skin treatments that remove layers of skin) that jumpstart the skin’s restorative and healing functions. Unlike other dermal rolling, laser, or ablative treatments, this treatment causes less damage to your skin and helps to protect your skin cell growth. Thus, recovery time from micro-needling is often shorter than other treatments and frequently yields higher successful results.
Who Is a Candidate For Microneedling?
Patients dealing with poor skin tone or texture, scarring, or signs of aging will benefit most from this treatment. Microneedling can improve these issues by stimulating the skin’s natural regrowth process. Anyone dealing with open sores or skin conditions that could prevent successful results may not be suitable for this treatment. Additionally, patients who have any blood conditions or are currently using blood thinners may not be good candidates.
What Happens During The Microneedling Treatment?
After the patient’s skin is cleansed, a light numbing agent will be applied for 30-40 minutes.
The Eclipse Micropen Elite is gently glided over the treatment area creating tiny needle wounds (micro-channels) in the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). The needling and the depth of it result in the redness and swelling of the skin, which will require a day or two to normalize (most inflammation and swelling is mild).
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
This treatment may cause some sensitivity and redness. These symptoms should subside within one or two days. Overall, the recovery time is about three days. You will be instructed to use specific skincare products to aid in your healing process. Results can appear quickly, but the skin may feel rough as it heals. Once you are fully recovered, your skin will feel soft and look more youthful and glowing. To maintain your healthy skin, a scheduled treatment plan can be created during your consultation.

During his time in Buffalo he also completed a fellowship in surgical pathology at Roswell Park. Following medical school Dr. Kayastha gained a much sought after position in the Michigan State-Grand Rapids integrated plastic surgery residency. After finishing residency training Dr. Kayastha completed a one year fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the Buncke Clinic in San Francisco. To round out his training before starting private practice Dr. Kayastha spent an additional 6 months learning from some of the best cosmetic surgeons in San Francisco. Dr. Kayastha is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
