Waxing

in Albany, NY

What is Waxing?

Waxing is one effective way to temporarily remove unwanted hair from the body. As an alternative to shaving or plucking, waxing can be a quick and easy way to attain longer-lasting results. This can be performed in-office by our expert aestheticians.

Who is a Candidate for Waxing?

Most patients with excess hair can find great results with waxing treatments. Prior to treatment, you should avoid using retinol medications, which can affect the skin’s integrity, and you may be instructed to take pain medication beforehand if your pain tolerance is low. It’s also important to make sure your hair is at the best length for removal, which is around one-half inch. If the hairs are longer, you may be required to trim them to the appropriate length in order to ensure the hair can be removed properly and effectively.

What Happens During Waxing Treatments?

Waxing can be used to quickly remove hair from many areas of the body. The session begins with hot wax being applied to the skin, and a cloth is placed over the hot wax so that it adheres to the cloth. The cloth is then quickly and firmly pulled in the opposite direction of hair growth, removing the hair with it. This is repeated as many times as needed all over the treatment area. Afterwards, the skin is soothed.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

Most patients see results from waxing for around three weeks, but this can be dependent on how quickly your hair growth cycle occurs. You’ll most likely experience redness and swelling at the treatment site, which can become sensitive for around one day after treatment. Avoiding tight clothing and soothing any discomfort with cool compresses or showers can help with irritation, as well as using a light, unscented moisturizer.
