What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable filler that restores and corrects the physical signs of facial fat loss, replenishing facial volume through a deep injection. The loss of facial fat, or lipoatrophy, is a condition that is predominantly characterized by the loss of fat deposits in the skin, resulting in sunken cheeks, facial indentations, and hollow eyes. Sculptra is an injection that gradually increases the thickness of the skin in order to improve the appearance of skin, reducing fine lines and facial folds across the face and adding volume.
Sculptra accomplishes this by essentially taking the place of the skin’s natural collagen that inherently decreases as we age and, thus, results in the formation of wrinkles. Sculptra is administered in a series of injections to gradually reinforce the skin’s structure from within the lower layers to achieve a subtle, longer-lasting lift.
Who is a Candidate for Sculptra Treatment?
Ideally, patients who want to receive Sculptra treatments have healthy immune systems and are able to keep up with the treatment plan, which is usually comprised of up to 4 sessions of injections scheduled just a few weeks apart. These successive sessions are intended to correct shallow-to-deep wrinkles and facial folds, or even contour deficiencies. Sculptra should be avoided by patients who have an active skin infection on the target areas, allergies to any of the components, or a history of hypertrophic scarring. A consultation with Dr. Kayastha is the best way to determine what results you can achieve with Sculptra.
What Happens During Sculptra Treatment?
Your injector will make sure to supply a topical numbing cream if needed during your treatment, and the injection is administered after the treatment area is cleansed. Since the goal of Sculptra is natural, subtle, and lifted results through a deep injection, it’s important that your injector be skilled and experienced with facial anatomy and aesthetic results. This is especially important since you may not notice immediate results with Sculptra, which will emerge over the course of treatment. Your treatment session can take around a half hour, depending on how many areas you choose to have treated and how much product is required.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
Some patients experience minor swelling, redness, or itchiness at the injection site, but this usually subsides quickly. The best results from your Sculptra treatment series will emerge over the course of your sessions, with the results lasting two years or more, after which you can repeat your treatment as needed. Sculptra can be used in addition to other skin treatments that can enhance your results, and Dr. Kayastha may recommend one that can help you achieve your aesthetic goals, whether surgical or non-surgical.
