Give your breasts a more youthful look
Normal aging, pregnancy, breast feeding and weight fluctuations can result in breasts that droop. This can be due to loss of volume and stretching of the skin envelope of the breast. Tightening the breast skin and repositioning the glandular tissues will give the breast a more youthful, pleasing shape.
What Is A Mastopexy?
A mastopexy or breast lift is a procedure done to lift and reshape the breast. It involves tightening the breast skin and reshaping the breast tissue. The result is a lifted, more youthful appearing breast.
Who Is A Good Candidate?
The best candidates for mastopexy are healthy women with realistic expectations of what a mastopexy can accomplish. Women who are dissatisfied with their breast shape due to loss of shape and volume can be helped by mastopexy surgery. Women who feel that they are still too small when their skin is tightened and the breast gland is lifted may elect to have an augmentation mastopexy. In this procedure an implant is placed in addition to the breast lift to give a woman increased volume.
How Is Mastopexy Performed?
Mastopexy is performed in the hospital as an outpatient surgery. The incisions and resultant scars for mastopexy vary depending on the amount of lifting required. These incisions always involve a circular incision around the areola. Sometimes a vertical incision on the front of the breast and a horizontal incision underneath the breast are added to gain the correct amount of skin tightening.
Breast Lift Recovery
Most patients have some soreness for 2-10 days. Non-strenuous activities of daily living are resumed in 24-48 hours. Strenuous exercise should not be undertaken for 5-6 weeks.
The result from your mastopexy surgery should last for a long time. Normal aging, gravity and weight fluctuations will continue to effect the shape of your breasts in the future.
